Andy Beussink joined Cardiovascular Consultants in 1999. He has been
with CVC 8 years. Andy is our nuclear technician and performs the Cardiolite nuclear scans for the practice. He is always fun-loving and his calm spirit relaxes our patients and staff. Andy is also our resident holiday turkey fryer. CVC is thankful for Andy Beussink!
Best reason to work at CVC: CVC has a great mix of doctors and staff. We compliment each other well and make every effort to give our patients great cardiac care.
Describe a typical day for you at work: I begin by receiving and unpacking the nuclear material. I start IV lines and dose and administer the nuclear medicine. I also compound our chemical stress agents. I set up and process the nuclear scans and get the studies ready for a physician to interpret. I compile all the recordkeeping for the nuclear department.
What do you like about your job? I enjoy the patient interaction at CVC. I get to know a lot about our patients and enjoy talking with them about their lives. Not every job allows you to do this. I like helping the patient by doing my part in screening for heart disease. (I also like not having to carry a beeper or be on call)
What challenges you at CVC? Sometimes it is difficult to calm a patient that is having a nuclear scan because they are claustrophobic or apprehensive about the test.
Most fun experience working at CVC: The CVC Christmas parties are fun. We get to meet the spouses of our co-workers and have a great meal. One Christmas party was particularly fun for me because I dressed up as Elvis and lip synced “Suspicious Minds.”
What do you like to do on weekends? I spend most weekends with my family. We like to visit our family farm and together feed our small herd of cattle. We also like to go to Grandma and Grandpa’s for dinner. I am also a sports nut. I like to keep up with all the games and sometimes get to attend.
