Best reason to work at CVC: Working with physicians that really care about their patients is one of the top reasons to be here. The physicians care about their patients and staff. There is a bad day here and there when a physician has been up all night at the hospital and is running late on an office day due to an emergency. The physicians never take it out on the patients or staff. We appreciate all the effort the physicians put in to caring for the patients.
I enjoy joking around with the doctors. It breaks the tension on a stressful day. I believe everyone needs to smile at least once a day. Life can truly be miserable if you can’t have a glimpse of happiness – even on the “worst” day.
Describe a typical day for you at work: My day starts early. I’m currently working in the nuclear lab. I start IVs on the patients, explain the testing process, and attempt to ease the patients that are anxious about the test. I work with setting up and scheduling patients with pacemakers and internal defibrillators. I also perform stress tests both chemical and exercise. I’m also available to our clinical staff when they need help troubleshooting equipment issues or have patient questions/concerns. No day is ever the same.
What do you like about your job? I enjoy interacting with the patients and working together as a team. Being able to socialize with patients is an important aspect in treating our patients. I want the patients to know that we care about them and their health. I enjoy educating patients when they have questions or concerns.
What challenges you at CVC? The computers are a challenge at times. I’m not savvy at it, but with repetition I get it. I know it is the “computer age” and I’ve learned to accept it.
Most fun experience working at CVC: I enjoy interacting with the patients and staff. I have a lot of patients that ask me about my kids. They have heard some of the “stories” that my children have pulled. I also enjoy the staff Christmas parties and interacting with my co-workers and their spouses on a “low key” pace. The office is very busy and it’s nice to be able to enjoy one another’s company outside of the office.
What do you like to do on weekends? I am the mother of four, so most of the weekend is consumed by traveling to baseball, volleyball or basketball games. It is also my “catch-up” time for housework. I’m not one to sleep much, so it’s not uncommon for me to work into the wee hours of the morning. I’m almost down with renovating a house I bought last fall. I’m doing a lot of the work myself. I can miter with the best of them!
